Curious learning and creativityEYFS stages and learning skills needed for life and school readiness
Every day is curated reflecting on children’s preferences and desires while also taking into account the EYFS stages and learning skills needed for life and school readiness. We inspire curiosity through this method and by really getting to know our children and planning in the moment or reflecting where they can extend their knowledge. All of this is done through motivated joyful learning.
Literacy
Children learn to spot individual letters or words on signs that we see in everyday life, learning what they mean and how the letters join together.
We use a variety of materials such as paints, sticks, mud, chalk and charcoal for children to learn how to write letters and create words, inspired by that which they see all around them.
Mark making is an essential part of fine motor skills development which we encourage and practice regularly.
Our book area is also a wonderful space for our children to relax and read about their favourite characters supported by our educators.
Mathematics
STEM learning opportunities are plentiful in the outdoors – from counting natural resources such as sticks, leaves or feathers to see the tangible quantities, as well as recognising the total if something is added or taken away, to learning about gravity and density through water play. We use our surroundings to recognise shapes and sizes, from church windows to road signs and we are always making maths and science fun and relevant which keeps our children inspired and engaged to learn more..
Understanding the World
The outdoors provides a wonderful opportunity for children to naturally explore and show interest in how things work and why. From the ever-changing seasons including why leaves fall and how flowers grow, to learning about local flora, fauna and animals, children are given a front-row seat to their education on the world around them, giving them a sense of ownership on how they can leave positive impacts on their friends but also community around them.
